Why a Museum of Street Style
A founding statement on the institution's purpose.
The MoSS Editorial Office · October 27, 2026 · 3 min read
Institutional note published during the founding phase.
Street style has shaped the world's visual language. It has influenced luxury fashion, music, sports, youth movements, and social identity.
Yet the people and communities responsible for creating these movements have not always received adequate institutional recognition. The MoSS exists to preserve those stories.
Our purpose is to document the people who create culture, not simply the institutions that commercialise it. That means treating the style of everyday people with the same seriousness traditionally reserved for fine art — with research, care, citation, and consent.
This Journal will be the institution's public voice: essays, interviews, photo essays, and research, each held to the standards of a museum publication.
