Journal
An ongoing examination of the people, places, and cultural movements that shape the way we dress.
Through research, storytelling, and historical documentation, The MoSS Journal explores the histories behind street style.
Behind every recognizable style is a history of people, places, decisions, and influences.
The MoSS Journal seeks to examine these histories through thoughtful writing and research.
Our editorial approach values context over spectacle, historical evidence over assumption, and cultural understanding over the pursuit of trends.
The Journal will develop alongside the museum, documenting ideas and discoveries that inform future exhibitions, collections, and research.
Original essays examining the cultural significance of clothing and personal expression.
Research-driven articles exploring historical movements, garments, and communities.
Profiles and conversations with individuals who have shaped or documented street style.
Stories examining the relationship between geography, community, and visual identity.
Close examinations of garments, photographs, publications, and other culturally significant materials.

Street style has shaped the visual identity of cities, influenced global fashion, and provided generations with a language of personal and collective expression.
Yet many of its histories remain scattered across personal archives, photographs, memories, and objects that were never intended to become museum artifacts.
What does it mean to preserve the history of everyday dress?
And what might a museum dedicated to street style reveal about the people and communities who shaped it?
The first essay from The MoSS Journal will explore the questions behind the institution's founding vision.
Stay connected to the histories we're uncovering and the museum we're building. The Dispatch brings selected stories, research, exhibitions, and institutional updates from The MoSS directly to your inbox.
The MoSS Journal is being developed as an ongoing publication.
Its initial editorial program will prioritize original research, thoughtful interpretation, and the careful documentation of cultural history.
New writing will be published as it is completed and reviewed.
The MoSS Journal is committed to careful research, accurate attribution, and openness to new evidence.
Where historical accounts are incomplete or contested, we will seek to acknowledge uncertainty and distinguish documented facts from interpretation.
We welcome corrections and additional information that may contribute to a more complete understanding of the histories we examine.
The Museum of Street Style is being built one carefully researched project at a time.
These are development targets and are subject to change.
