World
Street style is shaped by the places people inhabit and the cultures they carry with them.
Across cities and communities, clothing becomes a language of identity, creativity, belonging, and change.
The MoSS World is a developing digital atlas exploring the relationship between street style and geography.
Beginning with a study of New York City, the project will grow through research, documentation, and future collaboration.
Every city contains multiple histories of style.
These histories are shaped by migration, neighborhood life, music, work, politics, climate, tradition, and cultural exchange.
The MoSS World is being developed to examine these relationships without reducing a city to a single aesthetic or cultural movement.
Our approach begins with the people and communities who create and sustain local forms of expression.
We are interested in how styles develop, how they travel, and how their meanings change over time.

New York City is a meeting place of histories, communities, and cultural influences.
Its neighborhoods have shaped distinctive approaches to clothing, music, art, and personal expression.
The city's street-style history cannot be reduced to a single movement, borough, or generation.
The MoSS World will begin by examining the many relationships between style and everyday life in New York.
The MoSS intends to explore street-style histories across different cities and regions.
Future research may examine how local identities are expressed through clothing and how cultural ideas move between communities.
Our international approach will prioritize context, attribution, and collaboration with people who possess firsthand knowledge of the histories being documented.
These cities are research interests, not exhibition locations, offices, or partnerships. City profiles open only once their research has been published.
The MoSS welcomes suggestions for places, people, objects, and cultural histories that may contribute to future research.
If there is a street-style history you believe deserves closer attention, we invite you to share it.
Submissions may inform future research but do not guarantee publication or inclusion in the museum's programming.
The Museum of Street Style is being built one carefully researched project at a time.
