The MoSS — The Museum of Street Style
The MoSS / Programme

Collection

Every object has a story.

A garment can preserve a memory.

A photograph can document a generation.

A magazine, a pair of shoes, or a personal archive can reveal the cultural language of a particular place and time.

The Museum of Street Style is developing a research-led digital collection dedicated to examining these materials and the histories they represent.

Our aim is to make street-style history more visible, more accessible, and better understood.

01What we document

The materials of cultural memory.

Street style leaves behind an extraordinary range of evidence.

Some materials were created to last. Others were never intended to be preserved.

The MoSS is interested in both.

Our developing collection will examine objects and records that illuminate how people have used clothing and personal expression to communicate identity, creativity, belonging, and cultural change.

Born-digital photography, video, publications, and other records of contemporary style.

02Building the digital collection

A collection in development.

The MoSS is establishing the research, documentation, and preservation standards that will guide its future collections.

Our initial digital records will focus on materials that can be responsibly documented, accurately attributed, and presented with appropriate permissions.

The collection will grow through research, collaboration, and the careful examination of objects and archives.

We believe the significance of an object should be understood through its cultural context, not simply its rarity or financial value.

04Contribute a history

Some histories begin at home.

Important cultural records are often preserved outside traditional institutions.

A family photograph, an old publication, a carefully kept garment, or a personal account may help illuminate the history of street style.

The MoSS welcomes preliminary inquiries from individuals who possess materials that may be relevant to future research.

Submitting an inquiry does not transfer ownership or establish a donation, loan, or acquisition agreement.

Please do not send physical objects without prior written authorization.
